Roadmap to Promote the Release of the Crested Ibis

The Council has formulated the Noto Region Crested Ibis Release Promotion Roadmap, which outlines the necessary actions to be taken before the release of the birds. 2023 is set as the first year of implementation, with further efforts being systematically promoted.

Efforts to improve the habitat environment

Establishment of Model Areas

Model areas in nine cities and towns in Noto are to be established to promote the release of the crested ibis. The waterways of local rice paddies in these areas will be developed to create environments for creatures that serve as food for the birds.

Efforts to improve the social environment

May 22: Ishikawa Crested Ibis Day

Coinciding with the International Day for Biological Diversity, May 22 was designated to provide an opportunity to consider the importance of preserving the natural environment and biodiversity in which the crested ibis and other rare wild animals can live.

Yoshio Muramoto appointed as Crested Ibis Supervisor

On December 5, 2022, Yoshio Muramoto, a long-term devotee to ibis conservation activities, was appointed Ishikawa Prefecture Crested Ibis Supervisor. Mr. Muramoto will provide advice on maintaining ibis habitats and raising awareness of the manners involved when observing them.
