Noto's Satoyama and Satoumi were officially designated as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), the first in Japan, at the GIAHS International Forum held in Beijing, China on 9 - 12 June, 2011.

Masanori Tanimoto, Governor of Ishikawa Prefecture, made an announcement that Houdatsushimizu town was added in "Noto's Satoyama and Satoumi" during Ishikawa Public Forum under the International Forum of GIAHS which was held in Wakura hot Spring, Nanao city.
