Preserving the Spirit of the Festival
Customs, practices, year-round events... the traditional
festival is still very much alive in Ishikawa.
Festivals give residents the chance to make contact with the world of their ancestors,
and truly feel the spirit that gave birth to these customs.
Ancient prayers for a plentiful harvest are a legacy from the past
to today's prosperous urban society.

Hyakumangoku Festival(Kanazawa)

This festival, held every June 14, commemorates the arrival in Kanazawa of Toshiie Maeda, first lord of the Kaga domain.
A parade of warriors winds through the city streets, reenacting Toshiie's takeover of the castle. Kaga Yuzen paper lantern offerings are also set afloat on the water and a Takigi Noh play is performed by torchlight.

Seihaku-sai Festival (Nanao)

The festival is one of the three big seasonal festivals of the prefecture, held in the spring. After praying for a year of abundance, a float upon which dolls are carried (called dekayama) is paraded around the town.
