The level of education in Ishikawa is one of the highest in Japan.
We have one of the highest numbers of post-secondary educational institutions per 100,000 citizens, second only to Kyoto: ten universities, seven junior colleges and two technical colleges. Of our high school students who graduated in March 2002, 49.7% went on to study at universities or junior colleges. This figure is higher than the national average of 44.8%, a fact that reflects our citizens' orientation towards higher education.
